I remember how, up until about fifteen years ago, hauling blankets and comforters to the laundromat was a “small” task. Right now, with arthritis and fibromyalgia slowing me down and flare-ups sometimes making every step painful, caring for my disabled wife and four cats, cleaning six litter boxes every day, etc., etc., etc., washing the bedding is a huge project. I’ve been meaning to put a new bag in the vacuum cleaner for about three days now and still haven’t found the energy to get it done.

Reading is a great stress reliever for me. Right now I’m reading The History of Mistresses. I don’t remember the author’s name, and I just woke up and Rodney my eighteen-pound behemoth cat is sleeping on daddy’s lap and I don’t have the heart to disturb him. It’s a fascinating book nonetheless, written about 2003. Just having a cat on my lap is a big comfort and stress reliever for me and countless other people. When I’m really feeling pressured I like to shut off all the lights, sit in the middle of the living room floor and drink Captain from a baby bottle, just kidding!
